Food for Thought

August 2, 2011

Over the past month our sculpture/molds department has gone crazy casting a wide variety of foods for a current project we’re working on that focuses on responsible eating habits.  Mixed berry shakes, frozen mocha lattes, and blueberry muffins are just a few of the decadent items that we’ve created.  Don’t worry, we’ve also created some healthy items as well, like granola bars, couscous, and tomato slices.  These molds sure have made us think of food differently, realizing all of the minor details that make our food appetizing and delicious.

Bucket of Muffins

Creating food molds is actually quite a lengthy process, much time is spent experimenting with materials to ensure the mold is the correct texture and has the proper finish.  Real food items were used for many of the molds to create a master mold or shell.  But there were some items that were hand sculpted, like the tomato slices, to ensure it looked realistic.  Polyurethanes, rubbers, and plastics were used to construct these molds and have been painted by hand, either applied by brush or airbrush, to give the molds that extra pizzazz to make them look more realistic.

Our sculpture/molds department produces more than food items, if you have a project that could benefit from some customized molds contact us today at 989.695.6770 or marketing@zentx.com.

How to Avoid Ugly Signage

June 27, 2011

Community Mental Health of Central Michigan Sign

Community Mental Health of Central Michigan Sign & Building

Have you noticed that so many beautiful buildings are overshadowed by their not so great signage. It’s true, most signage is generic looking….a LED screen, a brick base, you know the generic look I’m talking about. Most building’s signage looks like an afterthought, something that is necessary to operate but doesn’t exactly go with or compliment your building. When hiring a signage company make sure they don’t just “plop” your logo into an existing array of pre-configured options. Make sure to hire a signage company (like ZENTX) that will look at the structure of your building and signage needs. At ZENTX, we strive to design, fabricate, and install signage for you that compliments your building and meets your needs.

Outdoor Event Must Haves

June 13, 2011

Spring is officially here and that means that outdoor events are in full effect.  I’m sure whatever kind of industry you are in, there is some kind of outdoor event that you have been invited to participate in.  Today we are going to discuss some of our top outdoor picks that can be used at golf outings, trade shows, fairs, or practically anywhere else.

Flags

Customized flags are great because they stand out among the plethora of banners when attending an outdoor event.  Our flags can be used indoors or outdoors, are available in various shapes and sizes, and can be single or double-sided.

Spence Brothers Flag

We recommend customized flags because they can be used on multiple types of surfaces – the flagpole comes with a water fillable base and ground stake for outdoor use and a floor base for indoor use.  The flagpole and flag is easy to install, take down, and everything fits into a carrying bag, which is great for transportation and storage.

Vehicle Wraps

If you want to draw a crowd to your outdoor booth, you should consider a vehicle wrap.  The vivid colors and graphics generate a lot of interest from event attendees.  They will want to see the vehicle up close which will bring them into your space and will give you a chance to talk with them.

WIOG Lizard Fair Scion

We recommend vehicle wraps because they are a great means for advertising, especially at outdoor events.  Not only will your vehicle wrap generate attention at the outdoor event but will also advertise your company and messaging wherever it is driven.

Hopefully our outdoor events “must haves” will help you when planning for your outdoor event.  Contact us today at 989.695.6770 or marketing@zentx.com for more information.

Things We Like – June Edition

June 7, 2011

Well I just realized that last week’s “Things We Like” blog never was published, so I guess last weeks blog posting will become this weeks…I know some of you must have been greatly disappointed. Our “Things We Like” blog contains some links to websites and videos that we currently are liking.  Hope you find them as entertaining as we do.

I’m going to start this Things We Like edition off with one of our favorite places for sweets – The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe .  If you ever need a project done super fast I’m sure a dozen or so cupcakes from here will help us get your project done quickly.  But seriously, they have a ton of cupcake flavors and they are all delicious.

Check out this video for some serious Jello Sculptures.  This is really impressive how they can create such intricate works of art with jello.  Maybe we should work this into a future project?…

Do you like to ride your bike?  Well Bike Friendly Grand Rapids is dedicated to making Grand Rapids a more bicycle friendly city.

Check out this video to see a time lapse of the earth rotating instead of the stars.

Check out the video below if you like inventive ideas.  This is very interesting.

Attack of the Birds!

May 24, 2011

Empey Learning Zone

Empey Learning Zone

We just completed a project for the Empey Learning Zone that I feel is definitely share-worthy.  This project involved creating 8 interactive kiosks (that correlate with the bird habitats that are on display), which utilized our custom fabrication, sculpture/molding, and programming services.  The kiosks included touch-screen monitors, customized programming, as well as a unique design.

Close-Up of Touchscreen Monitor

The kiosks feature an interactive bird catalog of 387 birds.  In order to create this detailed catalog we took close-up photos of each of the birds and the cases where they are placed.  Now, when people are at the Empey Learning Zone they can simply select a bird on the touch-screen kiosk and it will bring up a photo of the bird with it’s name (in both English and Latin), sex, place and date of where it was acquired.

Painting of Frames

The frames of the kiosks (which house the touch-screen monitors) were constructed using a polyurethane plastic – that’s right it’s not really wood!  The polyurethane plastic is a two-part liquid that once combined creates a chemical reaction which then forms into a rigid plastic.  The frames were finished with hand-painting to resemble wood.

The bases of the kiosks were constructed out of wood and then finished with a laminate.  The unique shape allows for an area to house the touch-screen monitors, computers, and wiring.

This project is a good example of how our diverse team at ZENTX can help you achieve any kind of project.   You can contact us at 989.695.6770 or marketing@zentx.com for additional information.

Out-Of-The-Box Kind of Project

May 16, 2011

How often do you think out-side of the box?  Well not only do we consider ourselves  masters in out-of-the box thinking, we also have a lot of clients who think outside of the box as well.  So this weeks blog is dedicated to a recent project that we did for one of our clients that involved some serious out-of-the-box thinking.

I like to call this project – Mann E. Quin, at least that’s what we called our dear “friend” during his time at ZENTX.  This project was initiated by Bolger + Battle (Midland, MI) to take a mannequin, wrap it, and place a shelf in the interior of the chest to house an award for a recent meeting for one of their clients.  Some may have been a little skeptical…but it turned out great!

We took a mannequin, removed a portion of his chest and stomach, placed some lighting and a shelf in the interior of the cavity (which the award was placed in), and wrapped the mannequin with graphics and text.   The mannequin proves how creative thinking can result in a stunning finished piece.

Do you have an out-of-the-box idea you would like to bring to life?  If so, contact ZENTX today at 989.695.6770 or marketing@zentx.com for additional information.

How to Generate Remarkable Response Rates

May 9, 2011

How does a 97% recall rate sound to you?  Extremely good, right?  According to a recent study conducted by the Outdoor Advertising Magazine, vehicle wraps are stated to have a public recall rate of 97%.  Which is very impressive!  But, if that number alone isn’t a good enough reason for you to invest in vehicle graphics for your single vehicle or fleet of vehicles then we have also compiled some additional advantages which are listed below.

Joe FM Wrap

Visibility

Vehicle wraps are highly visible – they catch your eye whether the vehicle is right next to you or a distance away.   Even wrapped vehicles that you see every single day still stand out and grab ones attention.

Mobility

A vehicle wrap allows you to alter or expand your advertising market with little effort and little planning – literally with a turn of the key.  Unlike stationary advertising, like billboards, your advertisement on your vehicle wrap goes wherever the vehicle goes allowing you to reach a lot of people in different markets.

Cost Effectiveness

For a relatively small initial investment, you will have the chance to reach hundreds to thousands of potential clients every day for years.  Unlike other types of advertisements you will not have to deal with monthly or annual rentals and costs.  When comparing advertising costs over the long run, vehicle graphics are very cost effective.

The vehicle wrap market has expanded rapidly and continues to expand.  Many companies now realize that vehicle graphics can be critical when it comes to marketing efforts.  Are you ready to add vehicle graphics to your marketing efforts?

Still not convinced?  Contact us today at 989.695.6770 or marketing@zentx.com for additional information regarding vehicle wraps.
